It Just Isn't Right

I'm attending the funeral today for a high school chum's 18-year old daughter. It just isn't right.

I wish there was some way to comfort her parents. More info here.

I am so sorry. Don't think I could bear it.

I'm with you ADG. At the service, my friend, the girl's mother, took my hands and very emphatically said, "You just never know." How true that is.

Our granddaughter turned 17 today. Can't imagine our family without her.

Oh, Kathy, I came to check out your blog after reading your resonant comment on mamacita's. So sorry to see that you're in the midst of this. There's nothing more terrible than the loss of a child, and Khristin sounds like an extraordinary one. What a beautiful, sad, sad story. My heart is with you all. - Jenny

I thought of you and this post when I read the following passage from a book by Philip Roth called Nemesis. It concerns the sudden death of a 12-year-old boy:
"In our sorrow we should remember that while Alan lived [his short life], it was an endless life. Every day was endless for him because of his curiosity, every day was endless because of his geniality. He remained a happy child all of his life, and with everything the child did, he always gave it his all. There are fates far worse than that in this world."

Pam-- thanks so much for the quote. One of the speakers at the funeral for my friend's daughter said something similar, that you never know if your life is going to be a marathon or a sprint. Khristin's was a sprint for sure, and your quote is imminently appropriate to her as well.
